Managers and staff in organisations with a culturally diverse workforce and/or customer base, and who want to develop a greater awareness and appreciation of other cultures.
Objectives
State the personal and business benefits of having a greater awareness of other cultures.
State what is meant by “culture”, “religion” and “community”.
Identify the key cultures, religions and communities represented in your organisation’s workforce and/or customer base/geographical location.
State the key beliefs, practices and/or characteristics common to relevant cultures, religions and communities.
List key behaviours/practices that will support good relations with people from identified religious groups and other communities.
Identify and list core behaviours that generally support effective cross-cultural relations.
Develop and present ground rules for effective cross-cultural relations in your work.

1 day, 09.30am to 16.30pm.
Course Content
This is an interactive course that uses approaches such as quizzes, games and role plays to learn about other cultures.
- Culture quiz.
- What are the personal and organisational benefits of learning about other cultures?
- Defining “culture”, “religion” and “community.
- Identifying the key community and religious groups in your organisation, customer base and/or geographical location.
- Exploring the main religious and community groups that you have contact with, including core beliefs, practices, issues/characteristics and hints and tips for showing respect (using input, discussion and the Diversity Game).
- The rules of polite and respectful behaviour – developing a toolkit for respect in cross-cultural encounters.
- Developing ground rules for effective cross-cultural relations in your work.
